ASTANDER is part of the consortium of the ASTILLERO SOSTENIBLE project, which focuses on the development of sustainable technologies for shipyards. The project covers topics such as circular economy, waste and water treatment, and reduction of atmospheric emissions.
The goal of ASTILLERO SOSTENIBLE is to implement innovative solutions that enable shipyards to reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and support the ecological transition of the naval sector. The project explores digital tools for waste management, advanced water purification systems, and sustainable dredging techniques, aiming to transform shipyard operations toward greater sustainability.

The ASTILLERO SOSTENIBLE project is a sector-wide industrial development initiative under the PERTE Naval framework, focused on enhancing environmental sustainability in Spanish shipyards. It aims to identify and implement new technologies for waste treatment, water purification, and emissions reduction, while promoting circular economy practices across shipyard operations.
The project is structured into two main work packages: analysis of waste and emissions in shipyard production chains, and development of technological solutions for circularization and environmental impact minimization.
Key innovations include digital tools for waste quantification and recycling alternatives, early-warning systems for air quality impacts using AI, advanced water treatment technologies such as ultrafiltration, electro-oxidation, and vacuum evaporation, solvometallurgical processes for recovering critical metals from shipyard waste, and hydrodynamic modeling and environmental risk assessment for dredging operations.
The project will deliver 10 outputs, including technical reports, software tools, and pilot implementations, contributing to a more sustainable and competitive naval industry..
ASTANDER is one of the five shipyards participating in the ASTILLERO SOSTENIBLE project, contributing its expertise in ship repair and transformation. Located in Santander, ASTANDER collaborates with ASTICAN as part of a shared industrial group, enabling joint efforts in sustainability and innovation.
ASTANDER plays a key role in pilot activities related to emissions monitoring, waste characterization, and dredging operations. The shipyard will host trials for digital tools that quantify waste and assess recycling options, as well as early-warning systems for air quality impacts. It will also support the development of advanced water treatment technologies and participate in hydrodynamic modeling for sustainable dredging.
Through its involvement, ASTANDER reinforces its commitment to environmental responsibility and helps shape the transition of the Spanish naval sector toward circularity and climate resilience.
