ASTANDER is part of the consortium of the ASTILLERONEUTROC project, which addresses the decarbonisation of the Spanish naval sector through technological innovation. The project covers topics such as emission reduction, lifecycle analysis of ships, and sustainable transformation of shipyard processes.
The goal of ASTILLERONEUTROC is to define a sector-wide roadmap for climate neutrality, integrating new materials, technologies, and digital tools to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the ship’s lifecycle.
The ASTILLERONEUTROC project is a strategic feasibility study under the PERTE Naval initiative, aimed at evaluating the technological transformation required to achieve climate neutrality across the Spanish naval sector. It encompasses the entire ship lifecycle—from design and construction to operation and dismantling—and includes shipyards, supply chains, and maritime operators.
The project will assess the current climate impact of shipyard activities and ship types, identify opportunities for introducing new materials and technologies, and define a roadmap for decarbonization. It will analyze emissions across scopes 1, 2, and 3, including direct emissions from shipyards, indirect emissions from energy use, and emissions from suppliers and ship operations.
Structured into three work packages, the project will deliver nine key outputs, including technical and economic feasibility studies, strategic diagnostics, and a prioritization matrix for future actions. The goal is to support informed decision-making and guide the sector toward sustainable transformation.
ASTANDER is one of the seven shipyards participating in ASTILLERONEUTROC, contributing its expertise in ship repair and transformation. Located in Santander, ASTANDER collaborates with ASTICAN as part of a shared industrial group, enabling resource sharing and joint innovation efforts.
ASTANDER is involved in key activities such as evaluating emissions from its operations, analyzing its supply chain’s climate impact, and exploring technological solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It also contributes to the development of a sector-wide roadmap for climate neutrality.
