ASTANDER is part of the ASTANDERSOSTEE project, which focuses on improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact in shipyard operations. The initiative addresses key areas such as energy monitoring, process optimization, and the implementation of sustainable technologies in ship repair and transformation activities.

The goal of ASTANDERSOSTEE is to deploy smart systems that enable optimized energy management, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance operational sustainability. By introducing advanced monitoring tools and a new water-based blasting system, the project aims to minimize energy consumption and waste generation, aligning ASTANDER’s operations with the principles of Industry 4.0 and environmental responsibility.

The ASTANDERSOSTEE project is a shipyard-specific initiative under the PERTE Naval program, focused on improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact in ship repair and transformation processes. It aims to modernize ASTANDER’s operations through the integration of smart monitoring systems, optimized energy management, and sustainable blasting technologies.

The project addresses key environmental and operational challenges, including high electricity consumption in dry docks, inefficient water usage, and emissions from traditional surface treatment methods. It proposes innovative solutions such as real-time energy monitoring, predictive maintenance tools, and the adoption of hydroblasting with osmotized water to replace abrasive blasting.

Structured into two main action lines—energy monitoring and process optimization—the project will deliver measurable improvements in energy savings, carbon footprint reduction, and operational sustainability. ASTANDERSOSTEE aligns with EU climate goals and positions ASTANDER as a forward-thinking shipyard committed to environmental responsibility and technological innovation.

ASTANDER is the lead shipyard in the ASTANDERSOSTEE project, contributing its expertise in ship repair and transformation to drive energy efficiency and environmental innovation. Located in Santander, ASTANDER plays a central role in implementing pilot systems for energy monitoring, water treatment, and sustainable surface cleaning.

The shipyard will host trials for smart energy management platforms and predictive maintenance tools, focusing on high-consumption areas such as dry docks and pumping stations. It will also introduce a new hydroblasting system using osmotized water, designed to reduce energy use and eliminate the need for abrasive materials.

ASTANDER’s facilities—including dry docks, berths, and workshops—will serve as testbeds for these innovations. Through its participation, ASTANDER reinforces its commitment to sustainability and positions itself as a benchmark in the ecological modernization of the Spanish naval industry.
