ASTANDER is part of the ASTANDER MA project under the PERTE Naval framework, focused on improving environmental sustainability in ship repair and transformation processes. The project targets the reduction of industrial wastewater pollution through the deployment of advanced water treatment technologies.

The initiative includes the installation of a portable industrial wastewater treatment unit and a reverse osmosis system to refine treated water. These technologies aim to eliminate contaminants such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and biocides from ship maintenance operations, enabling water reuse and preventing marine pollution.

The ASTANDER MA project is a site-specific environmental investment initiative under the PERTE Naval framework, focused on reducing the ecological impact of ship repair and transformation activities. It targets the treatment and reuse of industrial wastewater generated during hull cleaning and maintenance operations.

The project involves the installation of two key systems: a portable industrial wastewater treatment unit and a reverse osmosis module for water refinement. These technologies aim to eliminate contaminants such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and biocides, enabling water reuse and preventing marine pollution.

Structured as a single workstream, the project will deliver two main outputs—both treatment units—contributing to ASTANDER’s transition toward cleaner operations and aligning with EU goals for circular economy and sustainable industrial practices.

ASTANDER is the sole shipyard implementing the ASTANDER MA project, focused on reducing the environmental impact of ship maintenance operations. Located in Santander, ASTANDER leads this initiative by deploying advanced water treatment systems to address pollution from hull cleaning and repair activities.

The shipyard will install a portable wastewater treatment unit and a reverse osmosis system to purify and reuse water used in dry dock operations. These technologies will eliminate contaminants such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and biocides, preventing discharge into the sea and enabling circular water use.

Through this investment, ASTANDER strengthens its commitment to sustainability and positions itself as a reference in ecological innovation within the Spanish naval sector.
